Doris Power – Artist Biography
Doris began painting landscapes in acrylics many years ago but very soon after, changed to watercolour. She is mostly self-taught but has taken some workshops; in particular, she was privileged to learn from Jack Reid, an internationally known watercolour artist in Mississauga.
She was a member of Visual Arts Brampton (VAB) for many years and was fortunate to have been accepted into four consecutive juried shows hosted by VAB during that time.
Doris laid aside her painting for 25 years until becoming a member of Creative Brushes in Kingston in 2018 and then due to Covid, took another short break. With her move to Bath in 2021, she was accepted into the Lakeside Studio Gallery for two years until it closed in 2023.
Being accepted into the gallery in Bath, was a pivotal opportunity. Since then, she has experienced a growth in her work; learned new techniques and mediums; expanded into painting birds and animals; and has joined art communities.
In August 2023, she completed the course; “Landscapes in Oil for Beginners” at the Kingston School of Art given by Brandon Liesen, and shortly after, one of her oil paintings was accepted into their 6th annual juried show.
In June of 2024, she was finally able to attend the Haliburton School of Art, taking a course in “Painting Wild Birds in Acrylics on Yupo Paper”. As her journey continued, she attended the workshop “Wax Sealing and Mounting Watercolour”, given by Clair Jacobs.
Doris is currently a member of Bath Artisans in Bath; the Greater Napanee Area Artists Association in Napanee; and Rideau Lakes Artists Association in Westport. To date, she has been in eight juried shows with the most recent being the GNAAA 8th Annual Juried Show in March 2026 where she won the Third Prize Award. She is also a photographer, gardener and creator of ‘Art Escapes’ for small groups of artists.
Her paintings are in private collections in Canada, the UK, United States and Japan.
